I stopped in one day to get some cupcakes for myself and a couple for friends to try. When they found out that two were gifts the put a ribbon on them for me, and they looked so adorable!
First off I am not very adventurous with my cupcake selections as others. Give me a vanilla cupcake with some buttercream frosting and I am happy (as long as it's good, of course). Usually Red Velvet is about as adventurous as I'll go, but for the sake of this blog, after this post (which was planned months ago) I will try to pick something out of my regular repertoire on each trip.
So, since this was months ago, I only got 2 pickings: The Very Vanilla and the Black and White, which is a chocolate cupcake with white frosting. Both are delicious. Their frosting isn't the super sweet, sugar sticking to your teeth buttercream you might be used to, but it's good none-the-less. Their vanilla frosting tastes almost like Dairy Queen ice cream, although of course it isn't cold. I love it.
I have also tried the salted caramel cupcake and it is delicious. Not too salty, but definitely sweet and delicious. Their cake is always moist, which is a must when it comes to cupcakes.
Sweets also makes French macaroons, which if you haven't tried, you must. To me macaroons were just coconut blobs, and I hate coconut. French macaroons are a whole different story. The Salted Caramel are the best. The cookie is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, and totoallly delicious.
Sweets also sells blondies and brownies which I have never tried. They also occassionally have fondant cutouts premade that you can buy to put on your own baking creations. Defintely check out Sweets. In addition to the St. Paul location on Marshall and Cleveland, they have just opened a Minneapolis store at 47th and Nicollet.
